Everything you need to know about TMPC registration and licensing

Registration Licensing Verification General
Registration

Any person practicing traditional medicine in Zimbabwe — including traditional healers, herbalists, faith healers, prophets, bishops, and distributors of traditional medicine — is required by law to register with the Traditional Medical Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe. Practicing without registration is a criminal offence under the Traditional Medical Practitioners Act.

You will need the following documents when visiting our offices:
  • National ID (original + certified copy)
  • Proof of residence (utility bill or affidavit)
  • Two recent passport-sized photographs
  • Any relevant practice certificates or qualifications
  • Completed registration application form
You can begin the process by submitting our online pre-registration form before visiting the office.

Once you submit a complete application with all required documents, the registration process takes approximately 5–10 working days. You will be contacted by our office once your registration is approved and your license is ready for collection.

All fees are payable at the TMPC offices. For the latest fee schedule, please contact us on 0772-396-948.

You can submit a pre-registration form online to start the process. However, you must still visit our offices in person with your original documents for final verification and to pay the registration fee. We will contact you within 5 working days of receiving your online form.
Licensing

Registration is the process of recording your details in the official TMPC registry — this is a one-time process. A license is issued after registration and must be renewed annually. You must hold a valid, current license to legally practice traditional medicine in Zimbabwe. Both registration and a current license are required.

All TMPC licenses expire on 31 December of the year of issue, regardless of when during the year they were issued. If you register in March, your license still expires on 31 December of that same year. You should renew your license before this date each year.

Practicing traditional medicine with an expired license is illegal under the Traditional Medical Practitioners Act. You may face fines or prosecution if found practicing without a valid license. The public is encouraged to verify practitioners before seeking treatment. Please ensure you renew your license before 31 December each year.

Visit the TMPC offices before 31 December with the following:
  • Your current or most recent TMPC license
  • Your National Identity Document
  • The applicable renewal fee
Renewals may also be processed through your registered practitioners association. Contact our office on 0772-396-948 for assistance with renewal.
Verification

Use our online Practitioner Verification tool. Enter the practitioner's registration number or national ID number to instantly check their registration status and license validity. The result is drawn directly from the official TMPC registry. You can also search the full Practitioners Directory.

An ACTIVE status means the practitioner is registered with TMPC and their license is currently valid. They are legally authorised to practice traditional medicine in Zimbabwe. An EXPIRED status means their license has lapsed and they are not currently authorised to practice.

If you cannot verify a practitioner using our online tools, contact our offices immediately on 0772-396-948, Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm. Do not seek traditional medical treatment from unregistered or unverified practitioners. Your safety is our priority.

Yes. The Traditional Medical Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe is established under the Traditional Medical Practitioners Act and operates under the Ministry of Health and Child Care. TMPC is the sole government-mandated regulatory body for traditional medicine practitioners in Zimbabwe.
